Celebrating Strength, Wisdom and beauty Beyond 50
Hello and Welcome to Fifty Pieces of Glass! My name is Laura, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to my corner of the internet. This blog was created with a deep sense of purpose and passion, and I hope you’ll find inspiration, support, and a sense of connection in these words. I couldn’t be happier to share the heart and meaning behind this community with you.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and my journey to founding this group has been shaped by years of experience, reflection, and a deep passion for empowering women. Growing up, I started working at the age of 12, and from a young age, I learned something important: you’re not truly living unless you are doing something you love, something that challenges you, make you grow, and keeps you engaged in the world around you. I’ve always believed that there should be purpose, passion, and finding joy in the process of working. That philosophy has been at the core of who I am, and it’s what I want this group to embody. The idea of Fifty Pieces of Glass was born out of my desire to create space where women like us those over 50 could come together to share our stories, our wisdom, and our passions. As we age, we accumulate so many experiences, that each of us carries which is unique pieces of life that have shaped us.
Why The Name “Fifty Pieces of Glass”?
The number fifty has a special significance, It marks an important milestone in a woman’s life, often a time when we begin to look at things differently, reevaluate our purpose, and embrace a new chapter. For many of us, turning fifty can feel like the beginning of a new era, one where we are no longer bound by the expectations of others or the pressures that come with younger years. We’ve earned the wisdom that comes with experience, and we’ve learned that life is about embracing all of it-the joys, the challenges, the successes, and the heartbreaks.
The “Pieces of Glass” aspect of the title speaks to the reality that we are not perfect, nor should we ever feel the need to be. We are women who have lived through decades of experiences some of them beautiful, some difficult, some transformative. As glass can be shattered and broken, so too can we. But unlike glass, when we break, we don’t lose value. Instead, we gather the pieces of our brokenness, reflect on them, and come out stronger, more resilient and more whole than before. The pieces may not fit back together perfectly, but that’s where the beauty lies. The cracks and chips are part of our story, and they make us who we are.
Why I chose the Slogan?
I chose the slogan “Embodying Strength, One Shard At A Time” because it speaks to the quiet power that women over fifty embody. Unlike the fleeting strength of youth, our strength is grounded in lived experience. It’s not a strength that is loud or flashy, but one that emerges over time, built from moments of hardship, joy, loss and success. It’s strength that doesn’t come from avoiding challenges but from facing them head-on time and time again.
Why I Chose to Start This Group?
I created this group because I believe in the power of women coming together-especially women who have lived long enough to know what truly matters. For too long, society has defined a woman’s worth by youth, beauty and traditional roles, but I know that we have so much more to offer. Each of us is a reflection of decades of life experiences, and that alone is worth celebrating. This group is for us to continue shaping the narrative, for us to feel heard, seen and valued in all the stages of our lives.
So, I invite you to be a part of this community. Let’s embrace the beauty of our brokenness and our strength. Let’s share our stories, learn from each other, and grow together. Here’s to the next chapter-may it be bold, bright and beautiful as the women who are part of it.
Welcome to Fifty Pieces of Glass. I’m so glad you’re here.
With love,
Laura / Founder of “Fifty Pieces of Glass”
